The traditional astrology tool of dignity and debility is a powerful and nuanced way to add detail to your chart interpretation. But many astrologers do not realize how effective and useful this tool can be or they think it is simply archaic and overly complicated. Nothing could be further from the truth!

Instructor: Charles Obert
5-week intensive course

The goal of this class is to show how you can reclaim this effective tool.

Traditional astrology offers a particularly effective system of forecasting that combines techniques to help you prepare for the future and understand the past.

Instructor: Charlie Obert
5-week course

This system is known as the Cycle or Turning of the Year. Instead of just using a Solar Return, this method was prepared yearly for each birthday. It has its roots in Hellenistic astrology, came to full flower in the Arabic and Persian eras, and persisted through the late Classical period of Lilly and his contemporaries. Ben Dykes' translation of Abu Mashar's On Solar Revolutions in Persian Nativities3 is a full exposition of this system.

Instructor: Nina Gryphon

This course will teach the theory, methods, and practical application of astrological magic, as practiced in the West and the Middle East for the past two thousand years. Historic astrological magic has only been fully rediscovered in the past two decades as older astrological and magical texts were translated into modern languages.

Astrology has a rich heritage stretching back thousands of years. We sometimes think of astrology as just one thing, but different cultures asked different questions as they found meaning in the ever-changing sky. This class offers a survey of the history of astrology, primarily in the West.

Instructor: Inga Thornell
0-week course

The Greco-Roman Gods have not been worshipped in any official capacity for over 2000 years, and yet this mythology is the foundation for much of the allusion, characters and literary forms in Western literature. We still refer to people as jovial, junoesque, or to music as martial. What keywords can we discover as we read the god's stories and try to understand them from a more astrological point of view?

Astronomy and astrology have the same origins in the explorations and explanations of the visual sky.

Instructor: Bruce Scofield

Astronomy is the study of the nature, motions, and history of the Earth's cosmic environment, astrology is the study of how the cosmic environment affects Earth and its inhabitants. In this course, specifically designed for Kepler College students, we will emphasize themes relevant to a general understanding of the subject rather than one involving technical knowledge and mathematics.

In a mere five weeks, we’re going to explore basic planetary symbolism to capture the dynamics of who we are and how we can flourish.

These difficult times provide an opportunity for personal reflection and new opportunities for learning. This course looks at different perspectives on personal identity and character as they relate directly to our astrological symbolism - in a way more profound than you can imagine.

What does astrology tell us about our soul's calling that helps us understand what we are meant to do?

Instructors: Enid Newberg and Joseph Crane
5-week course
No external texts are required for this course

The essence of the soul’s journey is the discovery of a larger sense of who we are and how we live in the world. In ordinary experience, our primary interactions with the world are through our daily work, our job or career. But this may not be the same as being "called" to a particular type of action or work. Sometimes the soul's calling is quiet; sometimes it is a demand that is triggered by grief or other traumas in our lives. The soul's calling asks us to trod a path that can transform ourselves and our world. Whether or how we act upon that call that is our soul’s “vocation.” This course explores how astrology can help us understand our soul's journey.

What can we tell from an astrological chart about the soul and potential past lives? It's a really good question and astrologers have been finding answers since ancient Greece. This course looks at the intersection of ideas about the soul and astrological interpretation from ancient to modern. Each week, students will have a chance to work with a different technique, applying it to their own charts and the charts of others.

Instructors: Enid Newberg and Joseph Crane
5-week course

The latest incarnation of the Recurring and Evolving Soul emphasizes astrological techniques along with a deeper understanding of karma. Topics covered:

1. Planets are divine (or at least they are people)!
The Western tradition: karma and metempsychosis
Meeting the characters
The ascent and descent of the soul
Talking to your planets

Anyone learning astrology knows how challenging it is to make sense of the chart as a whole. This course uses a modern scientific theory to make this easier.

Instructor: Enid Newberg
5-week course
Required reading provided in the course site

How do we find meaning? Systems theorist Gregory Bateson famously answered this question by stating that meaning is the pattern that connects. Astrologers understand this. It is only by finding the patterns of the chart that we can synthesize our interpretations into a deeper meaning.

This course presents the basic principles and related concepts of mundane astrology. Dealing with global issues and the politics of nations does change the basic meanings of the chart. So there will be emphasis on ensuring students understand the modified meanings of houses and planets coupled with delineation and synthesis of major planetary conjunctions and eclipses.

Practice charts will examine the effects of astrological configurations and forecasting for countries and political leaders.

At the end of this course, you will be able to assess a chart for clients in a way that helps them to succeed in the fulfillment of their life’s purpose.

5-week course

COURSE BEGINS February 2, 2020

Vocational astrology is the assessment and advisement of the potential work-related and purpose fulfilling features of life. In this process, the cycles of unfolding are used to inform the client – and ourselves – about life direction and timing. This course explores the practice of astrology as it relates to the professions, and as a tool for advisement. At the core is the process of making recommendations for the choice of profession, education, and the variations that take place at different stages of life. Business planning such as incorporation, marketing, and contract signing is included.

Most of our course offerings focus on the most common aspects of modern astrological practice. But there are additional unique traditions that have a different perspective and/or philosophical underpinning that astrologers incorporate into their practice. This includes Esoteric Astrology (originally developed by Alice Bailey or the Church of Light), Evolutionary Astrology (originally developed by Jeffrey Wolf Green and Steven Forrest), Uranian/Symmetrical Astrology (developed in the early 20th century), Astro*Carto*Graphy (developed by Jim Lewis) and  Astromapping, Hellenistic Astrology, Medieval Astrology and Indian Astrology.

This certificate requires 30 weeks from a range of courses focused on these traditions.

Astromapping is the art of using the astrological chart to determine a good place to live or even the best way to structure one's local environment (similar to Fung Shui).  Astro*Carto*Graphy is the art of using the natal chart to determine what areas of world support or challenge the natal planet positions. Local Space astrology uses the natal chart to interact with your local environment so that it supports who you are. Like Feng Shui, you can use these techniques even to the level of an individual room in your house.

The Astromapping certificate requires 20 weeks of instruction and includes the 10-week course WL220 Astro*Carto*Graphy, and two 5-week courses - WL221A Local Space and WL221B Astromapping Practicum.

Astrological counseling has unique features. This certificate requires 30 weeks of instruction. It provides students with a solid foundation of the considerations, issues, and ethics of astrological counseling and the ability to work with clients in the most common area of practice:

  • relationships,
  • one's own capacity for and style of giving and receiving love, and
  • the interactions of lovers, spouses, parents and children, and the family itself.

This certificate focuses on building skills for natal chart interpretation. The required courses provide students with the skills they need to successfully interpret a natal chart, an understanding of many of the types of tools they can use (and any controversies surrounding them) and a consideration of the ethical issues involved. It gives students a broad enough view that they can also understand the different approaches available for interpretation (such as traditional, modern, or evolutionary) so they can decide for themselves what direction interests them further.

The standard certificate (30 weeks) requires W101, W102, and W103. The extended certificate (40 weeks of instruction) requires the natal chart practicum, W104, which hones student's ability to work with common client questions (based on actual client charts and issues).

This certificate includes courses covering various methods of moving the chart in time, including techniques such as transits, progressions, solar arc directions, solar returns, planetary returns, profections, elections, rectification and more.

W110 and W111 are required for this certificate (20 weeks). Students can choose to take W112 and/or W113 (practicums focused on application) to fulfill the requirement of 30 weeks (the standard certificate) or 40 weeks (the extended certificate) of instruction.
