There is a trade-off in having the benefit of computers to calculate an astrological chart. Chart Calculation gives students a deeper understanding of how the chart relates to the movements of the earth and sky, which aids chart interpretation.
The first portion of this course covers the process of calculating a natal chart. Students will learn to calculate charts from time zones around the world, as well as in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres. The second portion of the course adds additional calculation techniques, including the lots, adjusted calculation date, progressions, directions and solar returns.
Fall term each year will have live sessions. For Winter, Spring and Summer it is organized for independent self-study and each student can request an hour of dedicated tutoring.
Use this course if you intend to take the organizational exams. complete the Professional Diploma or simply want to know more about how a chart is actually calculated. You may find it helpful to complete E400 Astronomy for Astrologers before taking this course.
Students have six months to complete their work. The textbook used is Simply Math: A Comprehensive Guide to Easy & Accurate Chart Calculation by Lauren Fowks and Lynn Sellon.
Donna Young is a professional astrologer based in central Alberta. Immersed in the astrology community at all levels, she lectures locally and internationally, and helps to organize a conference in Alberta on an annual basis. Her favourite thing is getting people excited about astrology, and holds hope that it will one day be understood and accepted broadly enough that it returns to its roots as an essential part of education.
Certified as a peer group leader by the Organization for Professional Astrology, she serves on their board as Director of Publications and Canadian representative. She is a graduate of the Kepler College degree program and currently serves as Director of Operations.
