Are obstacles bad? In astrology we often talk about how a square blocks or impedes a planet from fully expressing itself, and that this obstacle leads to challenge and frustration for the native. But is this always true?
Dr. Laura Tadd explored this question in her article Reframing Squares in the June/July issue of The Mountain Astrologer. In the article she observed that astrologers often fail to explore the huge gift that can be found in the square's blockade of energy. A square's impact doesn't just block the positive, healthy, beneficial archetypal qualities of a planetary signature. The shadowy, negative, and toxic aspects are also blocked and impeded from manifesting with ease. The energy a square brings in does not, cannot, cherry-pick what it obstructs: blocking only the positive and letting the negative run wild and free. It impacts all qualities related to this signature.
In this workshop Laura will explore this idea in further depth. She will use chart examples to understand the complexity of this aspect. She will show how labeling a square as one of the “hard” aspects can blind us to the gifts it can provide. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to understand how to combine the more common interpretation of a given square combined with the potential gifts within the blocked energy. Using this information, they can help themselves and their clients to see how squares can be in one’s best interest.
