JUNE PROFILE - MIKE PENCE by Robert Glasscock | ||||
![]() |
||||
"I'm a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order." Mike Pence – Gemini
In his own words, Mike Pence's faith supersedes his conservative Republican politics and his governmental vision for the United States. But his critics cite his evangelical Christianity in his initial rejection and slow response in 2015 to an HIV outbreak in an Indiana town (5% infected!) – from needle sharing. For two months, Pence fought a needle-exchange program like other states, until reluctantly authorizing one. His faith also motivates his opposition to Roe v. Wade and women's right to choose, and to same-sex equality. What configurations in Mike Pence's chart show his dominant religiosity? His firm moralistic convictions? His rejection of science and facts that conflict with his religious faith?* There's no confirmed birth time for Mike Pence, so his Moon (for noon in this Solar Chart) is likely in Cancer instead of Gemini (he calls his wife "Mother"). Jupiter retrograde (problematic) in Fixed, obsessive-compulsive Scorpio (sex, death, religion and power) in his 6th House (psychological self-integration) reveals that Pence's psychology is predominantly Jupiterian (religion, law, politics, medicine and health) – for good and/or ill. It's an almost fanatic position that's certain of its own righteousness and impervious to changing except under great pressure or threat of legal action. Retrogradation always marks an archetype as conflicted in some way, tending never to express its true intentions directly, if not downright regressive in attitudes and choices involving matters ruled by Jupiter in that horoscope. Pence's Jupiter squares Pluto in Virgo across the line of Sign. This is one of the most obstinate, fanatical, "know-it-all" authoritarian configurations in astrology – both inside the person as well as outside. Often raised in an authoritarian environment, it's the only way such people know. Relies on moral absolutes. With a Mutable Sun (Gemini, here) this square predisposes to passive-aggressive see-saw techniques to "win" at all costs. If not an authority itself, it seeks other authoritarian coattails to ride. A variation of the pattern is seen in President Trump himself (Gemini with Pluto and Mars rising). That retrograde Jupiter inconjuncts (conflicts with) Pence's Sun and Mercury (which are conjunct by Translation of Light) in Gemini. There's a constant internal battle between what his faith dictates is Truth, versus what sciences and education teach through millennia of accumulated research. He's constantly battling "outside" forces (the Other, Satan, historians, scholars, physicians, scientists, progressives) seen as threats to his righteous beliefs – to his faith. The thing that comes first in his life and gives him a sense of control over his strong passions, likes and antipathies. Mars-Venus in Leo square his Saturn/Pluto midpoint – a subtle but dangerous and potentially destructive aspect only apparent to astrologers familiar with cosmobiology (Reinhold Ebertin). "Ruthlessness," "rage," "the death of a great many people," are associated with this configuration; as are "self-discipline," "a love of solitude," "alienation."
Astrology Now! June marks the end of an era (and the start of a new one) connected with your home and security. You're settling into a new way of life – literally and / or figuratively. Your new psychological or domestic environment is reflected in surprising new friends and even group social associations that accompany your new direction. Serious issues could be connected with a family member, sibling or relative; not easy, perhaps even contentious. Here too, surprising elements are at play – healing rifts you thought were permanent, or distancing from some you've outgrown in every way. Your ability to feel compassion and to help someone in need can be tested this month. (You could be speaking with them for the last time, so make it good.) The first half of June is especially ripe for communications at a distance involving an upcoming trip or a work project – or combination. To fly in the era of the coronavirus, or not? Avoid the trip altogether and meet or collaborate online with a group or individual? Stressful? Yes. But definitely advancing you toward advancement. Have the coronavirus' restrictions made you acutely aware of how you spend your time? What do you do with it? Are you creative, productive? Or feeling isolated and adrift? Make things. Write things. Photograph things. Paint things. Build things. Sell them. Give them to friends or those in need. Teach. Enjoy the time to pursue your talents and interests! Believe it or not, what comes out of your relative isolation could turn into a wonderfully positive and constructive enterprise or community project!
