About us

grads-2008Kepler began as a dream to improve the educational opportunities for astrologers. Originally, this took the form of a 4-year college that included astrological studies embedded in a liberal arts program. The College included specialized study courses to present a survey of techniques from different cultures and different time periods.

Kepler would not have existed if it were not for the many people who have contributed to its development. This includes donors and volunteers as well as our Board, administration, faculty, staff and, of course, students. We thank you all.

After 12 years of academic offerings, economic realities meant that we could no longer keep the degree program open. But like the proverbial phoenix, Kepler was reborn into a new format.

Our promise to our students and supporters is that Kepler will keep to its primary goal: to provide high quality educational opportunity for anyone interested in the broad field of astrology and how it has been practiced in different time periods and different cultures up through present day.

Our current governing structure uses a shared system of governance between the Board of Trustees and the Administrative Governance Council.

The Board of Trustees's primary mission is to ensure the College has adequate resources to perform the College's mission and oversees matters of general policy relating to its mission, overall educational programs, general operations and strategic plannning.

The Administrative Governance Council is designed to ensure administrators coordinate on the implementation of administrative policies, work with the instructors to design the overall curriculum, and communicate this information to the Board of Trustees.

newberg enid2018 300pxDear everyone associated with Kepler - those who I know and those I don't:

Endings and new beginnings are continually occurring in our personal lives and in the lives of the organizations we work in. This is one such time in my life and in the life of Kepler College.

A new group of astrologers has stepped up to help build and grow Kepler into its future. They are a fabulous group who know and love this school, most of them having been Kepler students, graduates and/or instructors. In February 2019, I resigned as President and am taking a place on the Board of Trustees. Kenneth Miller is now Kepler's new President. Donna Young has been hired as the new Operations Manager.

Kepler has been a wonderfully interesting and rewarding place to work, in large part because it is not the effort of just one or two people. Kepler's birth and life has combined the skills, dreams and interests of many different people. And we are always looking to find ways to transmit this love of the rich and fertile diversity of astrologers and astrological perspectives in our workshops and courses.

As a global educational leader, Kepler is passionate about enhancing the field of astrology in a professional and structured way by developing and offering quality resources for investigation, education and practical application.

We strive for excellence by applying academic standards and professional ethics to the study of astrology.

We aim to transform the modern understanding and value of astrology by presenting the field in its historical, philosophical and cultural context.

We encourage and prepare our students to participate in professional circles

The practice of interpreting cosmological events as related to human endeavors has a long history and continues to evolve today. This activity is inextricably entwined in the development of Western and Eastern cultures.Yet to skeptics and those for whom astrology is simply entertainment, exploration of these philosophies and practices have no place in formalized study.

Maggie Nalbandian, Joanne Wickenburg, Roxana Muise, Michael Munkasey, Rick LevineIn 1991, a group of astrologers and academics decided that such a controversial and widespread practice deserved a place in academia where it could be analyzed for its historical, philosophical, and cultural significance and utilization.

Kepler College was born in 1992 from the creative audacity and hard work of this group.

For twelve years Kepler College offered academics and astrologers alike a unique opportunity to participate in a challenging liberal studies curriculum. Courses included the critical examination and analysis of the history and development of cultural interpretations of cosmology in both Western and Eastern cultures over the past 3,000 years, and how cosmological viewpoints influenced and was influenced by the cultures in which they developed.

Many of these courses are now found in our certificate program, which continues to grow and continues to serve our mission of providing an outstanding education for anyone interested in the many facets of astrology.

We are one of the oldest online astrological programs in the US: we were founded in 1992 and have over 13 years of continuous experience in offering an online program of expert quality education to our students.

johanneskeplerShort Biography

Johannes Kepler was born at 2:30 PM on December 27, 1571, in Weil der Stadt, W├╝rttemburg, in the Holy Roman Empire. His family was Lutheran and he adhered to the Augsburg Confession. This adherence later caused him hardships. He was a sickly child and his parents were poor. But his evident intelligence earned him a scholarship to the University of T├╝bingen. There he was introduced to and delighted in the ideas of Copernicus. In 1596, holding the position of Matematicus (professor of astronomy and astrology) in Graz, he wrote the first outspoken defense of the Copernican system, the Mysterium Cosmographicum.
