Why Study Hellenistic Astrology:

In the 1990s, a group of astrologers and translators reignited interest in Hellenistic astrology through the groundbreaking translation efforts of Project Hindsight. This work revitalized the study of western horoscopic astrology by reconnecting it to its ancient roots, which span over 2,000 years. Hellenistic astrology originates in ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Greece, but its beginnings remain mysterious. Mythical figures such as Hermes Trismegistus, Asclepius, Nechepso, and Petosiris are often cited as influential forefathers who helped shape its transmission into the modern era

 

The retrieval and reconstruction of Hellenistic astrology in recent decades has brought many formerly lost techniques and theories back into modern astrological practices in ways that have substantially enriched astrological understanding and increased the ability for modern astrologers to bring insights and guidance to their clients. While much work has already been done in discovering how to apply the ancient techniques of Hellenistic astrology to contemporary astrological practice, there is more to be discovered. The Hellenistic Natal Astrology Certificate will support students in gaining greater skills and accuracy in their astrological practice and becoming active participants in the broader community process of reconstructing Hellenistic astrology.

All courses at Kepler College are taught in English unless noted otherwise. Proficiency in English is required for all students.

Hellenistic Astrology Timing Techniques Certificate – 30 Credits

This certificate series builds upon the foundation of the Hellenistic Natal Astrology Certificate to provide proficiency in using Hellenistic astrology timing techniques. Students will learn how to integrate natal chart interpretation into timing techniques that give insight into personal narratives, discovering how to creatively apply ancient astrological concepts to the daily concerns of contemporary life. Students will read and critically reflect upon Hellenistic astrological text in live classes and an active online learning community, gaining proficiency in the use of timing techniques that can be used predictively and in reflection upon the meaning of past and present life events.

Program Objectives

• Explore the rich tradition of Hellenistic astrology: become familiar with various authors, theories, and principles contributing to the body of Hellenistic astrology by reading and commenting upon text and learning from instructors who will teach students how to utilize the ancient wisdom of Hellenistic astrology in their contemporary practice. 
• Understand Hellenistic astrology timing techniques: gain a thorough understanding of an array of Hellenistic astrology timing techniques, such as profections, zodiacal releasing, circumambulation of the bounds, decennials, minor periods and ascensional times.
• Apply timing techniques to contemporary life: understand chart synthesis and how to integrate natal chart interpretation into timing techniques that provide insight into personal narratives. Students will learn how to use ancient timing techniques to address various contemporary concerns, including predictive work and helping people reflect upon the meaning of past and present life events.  

Key Learning Outcomes:
By completing this certificate program, students will:

• Gain understanding of foundational Hellenistic astrology concepts: students will deepen their understanding of the fundamental principles of Hellenistic astrology so that they understand the underlying theories at the root of timing techniques, such as how to interpret the quality of time a person is experiencing as well as the transition from one quality of time to another.   
• Master Hellenistic timing techniques: students will gain proficiency in various Hellenistic timing techniques such as profections, circumambulations of the bounds, and zodiacal releasing, demonstrating an ability to apply timing techniques to biographical case studies accurately. Students will learn how to judiciously integrate natal chart interpretations into timing techniques that bring insight into personal narratives and can also be utilized predictively to address various questions.  
• Apply Hellenistic timing techniques to contemporary life: students will be able to apply ancient astrological timing techniques to the complexity of modern life, enhancing their ability to provide meaningful insight addressing various contemporary concerns through their personal and professional practices.

Upon completion of the Hellenistic Astrology Timing Techniques Certificate, students will be proficient in the theory and practice of timing techniques that enable them to give accurate insight into the personal narratives of the people they work with in astrology.
